MUSKRAT LOVE
This weekend I will
be watching the folk group America. Yes, they're the ones who sang "Horse
with No Name," "Ventura
Highway" and "Muskrat
Love." I have to confess that their music was influential in
my interest in the guitar. I've seen videos of their live performances
and I was less than impressed so I am not putting my hopes up too high
There was a time when
I dreamed of a music career but I've lowered my ambitions to leading Kids
Worship in church. If you've been reading my emails these many years you
may recall that I only started doing this within the last 2 years. I saw
a need and answered it. Last Sunday I had a meeting with the music ministry
and one of the musicians expressed her frustration dealing with the disruption.
She had told me how impressed she was at how I connected with the kids
and hoped to do the same. "I even sang your songs but they wouldn't
listen," she complained.
I realized then how
far I had come with my music skills. Modesty aside, I do spend time practicing
and preparing for my stint so this doesn't come easy. But it's more than
just music. I go all out to share my faith and I pray for these youths
during the week. So it isn't my incredible musical genius (yeah,
right!) nor is it a formula but it is a genuine concern for the kids.
When I see those innocent trusting children all I want to do is protect
and give them the most of what God has entrusted to me. Sharing my music
in public is an excitingly new area in my life. I challenge you to step
out of your own comfort zone and discover a way to invigorate your life.
Who knows? What you share may influence someone else to bigger dreams.
But Jesus said,
Let the little children come to me. Dont stop them, because
Gods kingdom belongs to people who are like these children.
--- Matthew 19:14
