TEMPORARY
REJECTION
My son called to tell
me the good news --- he was accepted to Yale Grad School. Last year he
was depressed because it was the first time in his young life he had not
gotten any acceptance from the universities he wrote to. We suspected
that his advisers had submitted his applications too late. We told him
that God has His reasons and we needed to trust Him --- "ask God
not what YOU want but what HE wants of you."
Since then we have
seen his faith grow a notch up. He mellowed down.
This reminds me of a
lecture about Moses. For the 1st 40 years he learned
from the best minds of Egypt's palace under the gaze of the public. The
next 40 years, alone, this superstar learned humility tending to sheep.
He learned to listen to God. But it was during his last 40 years as a
senior citizen that he was catapulted to greatness when he led 4 million
Hebrews out of Egypt. Yet even then, greatness had its ups and downs because
the roller coaster continued throughout the rest of Moses' life.
Moses had one major wish
--- to step foot in the Promised Land but despite all of Moses' plea, God said
NO because of what we humans deem as a minor infraction. But not according
to God's standards.
Many think that this
hero's career had a sad ending. But fast forward to the book of Matthew.
Moses is mentioned talking with Jesus up in Mount Hermon which is well
inside the Promised Land. God, in all of his wonderful justice, had granted
Moses his request after all.
"Just then
there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus."
---- Matthew 17:3
