June 9, 2017 The
Magic of Pippin
Last Saturday we watched
(The New) Pippin.
What a show! I've watched so many Broadway plays but this is probably
the best I have ever seen. Magic happens when amazing writers and musicians
join their craft to weave a tapestry of live performance. The singing,
the melody, the lyrics, the dancing the choreography, the energy level,
the acting, the acrobatic stunts, the costumes, the message ... where
do you begin? I wouldn't recommend it to kids but (even though I may not
completely agree with some of their philosophies) I highly recommend it
to everyone else. Just make sure it's a production that goes all out to
bring you the best of the best.
We've got magic to
do........ Just for you
We've got miracle plays to play
We've got parts to perform.... Hearts to warm
Kings and things to take by storm
As we go along our way
Those were the lyrics
of the opening song and the show certainly fulfilled its promise. From
my expectations of a "7" coming in, by intermission time I was
already spellbound way past "10." It's been almost a week now
and the music still lingers in my head. That's how good it was.
Traveling at the speed
of sound, true artistry can stop you in your tracks and force you up a
level of consciousness long forgotten. I realize it brought out the artist
in me ... the creative side of me. I feel like I plugged into this energy
source and now I need to transfer that energy somewhere else. As soon
as I finish this email, I am going to pick up a brush and paint something.
Maybe that's what art is all about --- soaking in energy and creativity
from one form and expressing it into another.
In the physical world
scientists talk about transferring energy. I guess this is also true with
artistic energy. This weekend, why not absorb art in your favorite form
and then "pay it forward" --- release YOUR art to the rest of
the world.

Marriage
Cards Contributed by

Marriage is like a
deck of cards. In the beginning all you need are two HEARTS and a DIAMOND.

By the end, you wish
you had a CLUB and a SPADE.
Sixty
Going on Seventy Contributed by
Don of Kelowna, B.C.
An
original parody of Rodger and Hammerstein's "Sixteen Going on Seventeen."
This was written by a TGIF subscriber --- Lois McKinney of Whittier, CA
(If you ever copy this material please give Lois proper credit. Thank
you!).
I
am sixty, going on seventy.
I know that Im naïve.
People say, Gee, you look forty-three,
And willingly I believe.

I am sixty, going
on seventy
And I know all the tricks:
Lift up your chin and suck your gut in,
And then I look forty-six.

Totally unprepared
am I
To grow old gracefully.
Twiddling my thumbs as years go by
Is not my cup of tea.

Now, if you want to
keep looking younger,
Ill tell you what to do:
Think young thoughts and always spend time with
People much older than you.

Original lyrics
by Lois McKinney.

I didn't think
it was possible to sing without knowing how you sounded. Mandy Harvey
got me teary eyed when she sang her own composition" "Try."
